Argentina legend Diego Maradona has claimed, perhaps jokingly, that he knows why Real Madrid president Florentino Perez sold Cristiano Ronaldo.
Messi Breaks Muller Record, Closes In On Pele
The 1986 FIFA World Cup winner recently gave a lengthy interview to Spanish publication Marca, in which he discussed various topics such as Lionel Messi, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, and even Ronaldo.
Speaking about the 33-year-old Portuguese superstar's move to Juventus, Maradona believes the attacker made the right decision in joining the Italian giants, and that Perez let him go because he was only scoring once a game.
"I think that it was a good move for Cristiano," he told Marca.
"He gave his all to Madrid, he wasn't enjoying it as much as he does now in Italian football and Florentino is always planning.
"When he saw Ronaldo was only getting a goal a game, he sold him."
Asked whether he thinks the Madrid club will miss Ronaldo, Maradona was quick to answer.
"Clearly, yes, but I always say that a player doesn't make a club. Madrid will recover, they will win again, they have a great squad, but the truth is that Ronaldo continues to score goals and people will say why he was sold," he added.
"I always say that Florentino is clever and if he let him go, it was for a reason."
'Nobody Has Done More For LaLiga Than Messi'
Ronaldo has scored nine goals and assisted a further six strikes in 15 matches for the Bianconeri so far this season.
