FC Barcelona star Neymar is being unfairly treated by the press, according to Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves.
Neymar, who has failed to score in the Blaugrana's past five matches, has seen his form come under extreme scrutiny over the past few weeks, with many wondering if he is still happy at the Catalan club.
However, Los Che shot-stopper Alves has offered words of support for the forward, who has been on the receiving end of staunch criticism in the media.
"I think it is persecution. It happens with everyone, but for being Neymar, or Messi, they always create controversies," he told Globo Esporte.
"They are already used to this kind of situation."
Following the final whistle in Barca's 2-1 defeat to Valencia at home on Sunday, Neymar appeared to slap Los Che right back Antonio Barragan and later threw a water bottle at another opposition player in the tunnel, but Alves admitted he was unware of any of this, and that if anything did go down, it is long forgotten anyway.
"Neymar was normal. I talked to him before the game, (he was) very calm, no problem," the goalkeeper added.
"I did not see what happened at the end of the game, I was giving an interview on the pitch.
"When it happens, everyone goes back to their home and it ends."
Neymar has made 43 appearances for Barcelona this season, scoring 27 goals along the way.
