Moyes: We Wanted Fabregas, Bale & Ronaldo

Former Manchester United manager, David Moyes, has revealed the club was close to signing Cesc Fabregas, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo last summer.

The Welshman was sacked after just ten months at Old Trafford and has come out to explain why his job was nearly impossible.

"It's been well documented that we wanted Fabregas, Bale and Ronaldo," he told The Mail on Sunday.

"There was talk of Ronaldo when I first arrived. We were close to getting a couple of major names. I'm not getting in a blame game here but things just didn't materialise.”

United ended up signing only Marounane Fellaini for £27.5 million Moyes claims Ed Woodward, United’s vice-chairman, wasn’t able to get any of his major transfer targets as both him and Woodward were new in their jobs.

"I had taken over from the most successful manager in history. The chief executive had taken over from one of the most renowned administrators in the game (David Gill). So it was a new job for two people,” he added.

"It was a step into the unknown and, looking back now, it was near enough the impossible job."

Do you think it’s down to David Moyes’ reputation that United struggled to attract any big signings? Have your say in the comment section below.
