According to reports, Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo will see out the final year of his contract at the club on one condition.
The Portuguese icon returned to his old stomping ground at the beginning of the season to help United capture a first trophy in five years, but as the campaign nears its conclusion, those hopes have failed to come to fruition.
Despite Ronaldo's 24 goals in all competitions this season, the Red Devils have failed to make any significant impact in the competitions they participated in, crashing out of the UEFA Champions League at the round of 16 stage, the FA Cup in the fourth round and the Carabao Cup in the third round.
This has led to the club's chiefs taking drastic steps to rectify the decline by appointing Dutch tactician Erik ten Hag.
Now, according to a United insider, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has told his teammates he will stay at Old Trafford on one condition.
"Ronaldo told the players he's not going anywhere unless the club say they don't want him," the source said, as per The Sun.
"No one is more disappointed than him about how the season has panned out.
"But he doesn't want to leave on a low and wants to help get the club back into the Champions League and try and win a trophy next year.
"However, he has told them if the new boss wants to go in a different direction, then he will have no hard feelings, and has no regrets about coming back to Old Trafford."
It is understood the former Real Madrid talisman's family is settled in Manchester, and following the recent passing of his child, he would like to stay in England for at least another year.
This is the first time the 37-year-old has finished a campaign trophyless since the 2004/05 season, during his first stint with the record Premier League champions, but despite this, he is seemingly eager to stay on at the club.
