Cristiano Ronaldo was furious following Portugal's 2-1 defeat to Serbia on Sunday, a result that means the Manchester United superstar's national team will need a play-off to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 36-year-old appeared visibly frustrated after A Selecao's loss on Sunday ensured that they would not get automatic qualification for the World Cup in Qatar next year.
A late winner from Aleksandar Mitrovic secured victory for Serbia, who have become one of the latest nations to have booked their place at the tournament, with Fernando Santos' side now set for a play-off.
Ronaldo, seemingly reacting to the defeat, gestured angrily towards his manager as the Portuguese tactician approached him after the game, as spotted by TNT Sports.

What is the play-off process?
A total of 12 nations will take part in the play-off round, made up of 10 teams who finished second in their respective groups and the top-ranked sides who have not yet qualified.
The 12 nations will be separated into three different groups, with the four sides in each group participating in a semi-final before a potential final. The three winners of those finals will take part in the competition in 2022.
