After Cristiano Ronaldo skipped the 2019 Ballon d'Or gala in favour of the Serie A awards evening, the Juventus star sparked controversy by reportedly waiting in his car until the moment he received his awards.
Ronaldo was a notable absentee at the Ballon d'Or gala in Paris, with the Juve forward opting to attend the Serie A awards evening instead where he received the league's MVP and Forward of the Year awards for the 2018/19 season.
However, the former Real Madrid star sparked controversy at the event where, according to beIN sports correspondent Tancredi Palmeri, he reportedly waited in his car until the moment he was called to receive his award, while his security detail attempted to prevent photogrophers from taking photos.
"UNBELIEVABLE! Cristiano Ronaldo waited in his car for the moment in which he had to be awarded MVP Serie A award! Then when the time came, he finally get out to enter the theatre, while his bodyguards pointed torchlights to cameras!" Palmeri tweeted.
In his absence, Ronaldo was voted third at the Ballon d'Or ceremony, behind long-time rival Lionel Messi and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.
