Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed who thinks deserved to win the UEFA Best Player in Europe award.
The Portugal captain, who won the prestigious accolade on Thursday, beat club teammate Gareth Bale and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann to the title, after winning the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid and the European Championship with his national team in the same season.
The 31-year-old has admitted that, although he beat Griezmann in two finals last season, he believed the 25-year-old would have been a worthy winner.
"As I said on the stage, he (Griezmann) deserved to win this trophy," Ronaldo told reporters after the awards ceremony, according to FourFourTwo.
"He lost two finals so it was unlucky for him, but I think he's a fantastic player, he's a good boy, he's my neighbour – he lives next to me – and he deserved it.
"But he will win for sure one day – I hope so."
Ronaldo played 48 games in all competitions for Real last season, scoring 51 goals and assisting a further 15 strikes.
