With Zinedine Zidane being on the receiving end of a lot of criticism lately, Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has heaped praise on the Frenchman, and revealed things the boss would tell him before some games.
Ronaldo and Zidane won plenty together in a short period of time at Los Blancos, including three consecutive UEFA Champions League trophies, before both leaving the club at the end of the 2017/18 season.
The Frenchman has since returned to the Real dugout, while Ronaldo is in Italy, where he leads the line for one of the biggest clubs in world football.
With his former boss being criticised a lot of late, the 34-year-old has now showed support for Zidane, saying the tactician had a great impact on his career.
"The confidence that a player needs doesn't only come from the player himself, but also the people around him, the other players, the coach," Ronaldo told DAZN.
"You need to feel like you're an important part of the group, and Zidane made me feel special.
"Zidane helped me a lot. I already had a lot of respect for him, but working with him made me admire him all the more, because of what he's like as a person, how he talks, how he led the team and how he treated me.
"Zidane would say to me, 'Cris, relax, go out and play your game, you are the one who's going to make the difference.'
"He was always honest, and that's why I'll always have real affection for him."
Ronaldo scored 112 goals and assisted a further 28 strikes.in 114 games under Zidane at Real.
