Cristiano Ronaldo has responded to the tribute he received on Tuesday night at Anfield following the untimely death of his newborn son.
BREAKING: Man Utd Announce New Manager
The Portugal international was unable to take to the pitch when Manchester United took on fierce rivals Liverpool in the Premier League this week.
The reason for his absence was because, just a day before, one of he and his partner Georgina Rodriguez's newborn twins had sadly passed on, as the couple announced on social media.
During the seventh minute of the fixture between United and the Reds on Tuesday, the Merseyside club's supporters held a minute's applause before singing "You'll Never Walk Alone", while their United counterparts applauded.
Football's all-time record international goalscorer has since taken to Instagram to show his appreciation for the gesture, writing: "One world... One sport... One global family... Thanks, Anfield. Me and my family will never forget this moment of respect and compassion."
Both United and Liverpool players took to the pitch wearing black armbands in solidarity with the star striker.
The Red Devils would go on to lose the game 4-0 to Jurgen Klopp's men, and are now sixth on the EPL table.
