CR7 Receives Special Honour From Boyhood Club, Sends Heartfelt Message

While Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Italy this week, he also received a special honour from his boyhood club, where he recently trained before leaving the Portuguese island of Madeira.

The 35-year-old spent eight weeks in isolation with his family in his homeland after initially returning to Portugal due to his mother suffering a stroke.

He has since been recalled by Juventus after Serie A gave permission for all players to return to their clubs for individual training this week, but, having returned to Turin earlier this week, will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine first.

However, before he left Madeira, he was made an honorary member of CD Nacional, the club he began his illustrious career with at youth level.

Ronaldo's lifetime membership was not the only big headline for his boyhood club in recent days, though, with Portugal's Football League announcing that the Madeira-based club will be promoted to the top division.

Portugal's prime minister announced the cancellation of the second division last week, and as a consequence, Nacional will return to the Primeira Liga after a one-year absence, which prompted Ronaldo to send an audio message to his former club.

"I met some players at (Choupana stadium), not all, but it was a pleasure to be there with all the staff and take advantage of the facilities to keep me in shape," he said, as quoted by ESPN.

"I want to send you a big hug and wish you the best and success. Congratulations to everyone for the excellent season they did... Nacional is in the 1st Division...

"I still don't know if we're going to play in Italy now, I'm looking forward to it. Let's wait. With regards to you, good luck for the next season, and we are together."
