A Real Madrid insider has claimed that superstar Cristiano Ronaldo ended up quitting Real Madrid because he heard they would rather spend big on Neymar than offer him a bumper deal.
Many were shocked when the 34-year-old announced he was leaving Los Blancos following their UEFA Champions League final win against Liverpool last season.
It was then said that Ronaldo had become furious as the club’s board had not stuck to their promise of offering a new deal, instead hearing they were heavily after Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar, according to former Real president Ramon Calderon.
"Cristiano asked for a raise after winning the Champions League and Florentino denied it," he told Radio Villa Trinidad.
"Cristiano also got angry because he heard that Madrid would be willing to pay a lot of money for Neymar.
"Florentino told him that if he brought in a cheque for 100 million euros he would let him go and that's how it was."
Real have looked in trouble without Ronaldo, although it is Los Blancos who seem to be closer to the Champions League quarter-final stage than Juventus.
