With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo often being compared to one another, a Germany international does not believe the Juventus superstar holds the same status as the FC Barcelona captain.
The Argentina skipper has been in terrific form all season for the Catalan giants, having found the back of the net on 48 occasions in all competitions so far.
Naturally, fans have compared Messi’s 2019/20 campaign to Ronaldo’s, despite the two superstars playing in different leagues for the first time since 2009.
Manchester City and Germany midfielder Ilkay Gundogan believes the comparisons between the two should stop, mainly because he does not feel Ronaldo is on Messi’s level.
"For me he has always been on a different level to anyone else," he told DAZN.
"Cristiano Ronaldo is the world class player after Messi, but for me he is not on this Galactico level of Messi.
"I don't think we'll ever get a player like him again, so we should watch him and enjoy him while he's still here. I'm a big fan."
Having already wrapped up LaLiga this season, Messi still has the chance to win the UEFA Champions League and the Copa del Rey.
