Cristiano Ronaldo and Real Madrid won’t win any major trophy this season, but the Portuguese is on track to win the Golden Boot award and could perhaps even set a personal record.
The 30-year-old scored a perfect hat-trick (one goal with his right foot, one with the left and one with the head) in Real’s 4-1 win at Espanyol on Sunday.
Following his seventh La Liga hat-trick of the season, Ronaldo has now scored 45 goals in the Spanish league.
His personal best was 46 strikes back in 2011/12 and he would break this milestone with at least a brace against Getafe in the final La Liga game on Sunday.
Messi, meanwhile, was also on the score sheet this weekend and his crucial winner against Atletico Madrid took his tally to 41 La Liga goals.
The Argentine would need at least a four goals to still draw level or beat Ronaldo to the Golden Boot award.
However, Messi and FC Barcelona celebrated their first major trophy of the season by clinching the La Liga title with one game to go.
But while Ronaldo can only still push for the Golden Boot award, Messi is still chasing the treble with the Copa del Rey and Champions League finals still to come.
