Chelsea must sell Diego Costa, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas in order to afford Lionel Messi, claims a Spanish football expert.
The Argentine has reportedly grown unhappy at Camp Nou, and it is suggested he could leave the Catalan giants in the future.
However, any club wanting to buy Messi would reportedly have to splash out around €500 million for his transfee fee and salary demands.
Guillem Balague, a Sky Sports pundit, has insisted Chelsea would first need to sell players worth €200 million in order to bring Messi to Stamford Bridge to allow the deal to fall within UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations.
“For Chelsea to actually be able to bring Messi and pay for it, they would have to sell the players they have got for a value of €200m,” he said on Revista de la Liga.
“So you are selling (Diego) Costa, (Eden) Hazard and (Cesc) Fabregas, and you are bring Messi.
“But even that way, FIFA will look at it and think: ‘You are selling six guys and bringing in just one. That is not right.’
"And it will be questioned. So it is very difficult.”
Despite his exit rumours, Messi has had a great start into 2015, scoring nine goals and assisting a further five in just six games.
