Former Argentina manager, Cesar Luis Menotti, has insisted Angel Di Maria was better than Lionel Messi and all other players in Spain recently.
Menotti, who guided Argentina to their first World Cup triumph in 1978, has described Real Madrid’s treatment of Angel Di Maria as ‘abusive’.
"I think Di Maria should be considered as the best player in Spain over the past few months, outshining even (Lionel) Messi," he wrote in his column for DPA Global Media Services.
"The way Madrid have treated Di Maria is an injustice.”
Di Maria has been brilliant for Real last season, helping them to lift the Copa del Rey trophy as well as the Champions League – being named Man of the Match in the final against Atletico Madrid.
However, the Los Blancos have been trying to offload Di Maria after signing James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos for £86 million.
Menotti went on to suggest Real’s interests in signing World Cup sensation Rodriguez were based on the desire to sell shirt.
"They signed James Rodriguez in an attempt to sell more jerseys. He's a marketing product for Madrid."
