Barcelona Board Provide Update On Lionel Messi’s Future
FC Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has given an update on Lionel Messi's future amid rumours he could leave for free.
Recent reports have seen the Argentine being linked with a move to Manchester City, with his current deal in Spain expiring at the end of this season.
However, although Messi is yet to commit his future to Barca, Bartomeu has ensured the club's fans the player will sign a new contract.
"Messi's renewal? It has all been agreed and signed," he told Diario Sport.
"All that is missing is Leo's signature for protocol and an official photograph, but his father has signed the image rights contract while the Messi Foundation contract is also finalised.
"We're relaxed as everything is ready and the contract will be valid from June 30 this year – everything is in place.
"Nobody should be worried, it has been a busy schedule with a lot of games but we will find the right moment, although I can't tell you an exact time."
Reports earlier this week suggested Messi could wait until the new year to think about his future, which is when he can listen to offers from other clubs as he will be in the last six months of his contract.
