Wenger Questions Neymar's Intentions At PSG

Arsene Wenger Questions Neymar's Intentions At Paris Saint-Germain

By Kurt Buckerfield - Sep 11, 2017 09:00 AM @KurtLaduma

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has questioned Neymar's motives following the Brazilian's move from FC Barcelona to Paris Saint-German.

Arsenals Almost Signed XI

The forward became the most expensive footballer in history when he signed for the French giants for a fee of €222 million (R3.4 billion) in the recent transfer window.

Despite Neymar saying his transfer gives him the opportunity of a new challenge, Wenger has suggested he believes the 25-year-old might have moved for money.

"Neymar never expressed exactly in his statement the reasons of his move, because there is always a huge desire for the players to play with the best players," he told beIN SPORTS.

"He decided to go the other way, so that is… for financial reasons, or for reasons that he thinks Paris Saint-Germain is tomorrow's club and will take over from Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"Or maybe for individual reasons, such as maybe he wants to become the player that the team turns around, and to be acknowledged as the best player in the world."

Arsenal Star: What Wenger Can Learn From Mourinho

Neymar, who is said to be earning €565 000 (R8.7 million) a week in France, has scored four goals and assisted another four strikes in his first four matches at PSG.

Do you think money was Neymar's main motivation for joining PSG? Let us know in the comments section below.

I've always believed that Neymar Jr can do better than remaining in Barcelona and overshadowed by Messi in his prime. He should've gone where his light would have shone brighter from the word go. And now that he's moved to France, it's good for himself and his game. He was always meant to be the poster boy, not the other go-to guy. That's what Messi, CR7 and Ronaldinho are. Even Luiz Suarez should move so he can be seen for a great player he is. Messi is taking all the shine from all these great players, like A. Iniesta, Pedro, Xavi and the likes. Or Neymar could've just taken the long way from Barcelona to Madrid to play with his childhood idol that's Ronaldo. You never know!
