On Sunday, Scaloni announced his 27-man squad for the Albiceleste's upcoming friendlies against Chile and Mexico, with Messi unavailable due to suspension.
The 32-year-old was handed a three-month ban by Conmebol for his controversial comments at the 2019 Copa America, during which he accused the South American football governing body of corruption.
Manchester City's Aguero was also left out of the squad, as was Manchester United's Sergio Romero and Paris Saint-Germain's Angel Di Maria.
Seven players have been included for the first time, such as 20-year-old Alexis Mac Allister, a Boca Juniors player who is said to have Scottish and Irish blood.
