Maradona Offers Advice To Messi Ahead Of World Cup
Argentina Legend Diego Maradona Offers Advice To FC Barcelona's Lionel Messi Ahead Of FIFA World Cup
With many believing that superstar Lionel Messi needs to win a FIFA World Cup to be considered among the greatest players ever, Argentina legend Diego Maradona has now offered some advice for the FC Barcelona man.
Messi is considered by many to be the best player of all time, although there are some who refute that claim as he is yet to win the biggest trophy in world football.
With the 2018 World Cup in Russia in mind, Maradona believes his countryman must ignore talk that his legacy depends on his success with Argentina.
"I would advise Messi to keep playing, to enjoy the game," Maradona told Omnisport.
"He has to forget about the critics, if he can win or not the World Cup, the Champions League or the Copa del Rey. He doesn't have to demonstrate anything. He has to enjoy the game into the field."
Maradona also touched on the comparisons often made between himself and Messi.
"He is left-footed, he likes playing. I am 57 and just come from playing football, look at me… I am dead," he added.
"But I still want to kick the ball. And I think, concerning that, we are very much the same."
Messi has helped Argentina qualify for three major finals, twice in the Copa America and once at the World Cup, but is yet to win a major trophy with the Albiceleste.
