With Lionel Messi recently being described as difficult to manage by one of his former FC Barcelona bosses, here are five people he has previously worked alongside he ended up falling out with.

In a recent interview, ex-Barca boss Quique Setien claimed that it was difficult to work with the 33-year-old, suggesting that the forward is resistant to change because he is set in his ways.

"There have been other great players who have been great, but the continuity that this boy has had throughout the years has not been had by anyone," Setien said, according to El Pais.

"Leo is difficult to manage. Who am I to change him! If they have accepted him as he is for years and have not changed him. There's another facet beyond just the player and it's more difficult to manage. Much more difficult.

"It's something inherent in many athletes that can be seen in the Michael Jordan documentary (The Last Dance). You see things you don't expect. He's very reserved but he makes you see the things that he wants. He doesn't talk much."

More recently, of course, Messi found getting along with ex-club president Josep Maria Bartomeu hard after he felt the Spaniard was not running Barcelona at a satisfactory level. Bartomeu's reported incompetence was one of the things that led to the Argentine handing in a transfer request earlier this year, and it was the ex-Blaugrana chief who made sure the player did not get his wish.

Ultimately, Messi decided against taking his boyhood club to court to push for a move away from the Spanish giants, but the cracks began to show months before his dramatic fallout with Bartomeu.

Earlier this year, the Argentine took to social media to slam former sporting director Eric Abidal for statements he had made in an interview, during which he claimed that Barcelona's players were to blame for Ernesto Valverde's sacking.

Months later, Abidal lost his job at the club he once represented so well as a player, unfortunately tarnishing his reputation with fans, and with his former teammate and friend Messi.

In 2018, at the FIFA World Cup in Russia, a number of reports suggested that the 33-year-old did not trust ex-Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli, while years earlier, Messi saw his relationship with Luis Enrique sour.

Although they won trophies together, Enrique made one or two decisions the forward disagreed with during his time as Barcelona boss, which led to them being on non-talking terms for a long while. Even today, Messi and Enrique are said to not have much of a relationship.
