Fans were in disbelief as they watched Kepa Arrizabalaga refuse to leave the field after his number went up to be substituted during Chelsea's Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City on Sunday evening.
The goalkeeper and Maurizio Sarri later claimed it was all a huge misunderstanding, with the manager insisting he was under the impression the 24-year-old had injured himself and needed to come off.
Although rare, we have seen similar instances before, with one involving FC Barcelona's Messi. Five years ago, Luis Enrique tried to take the Argentine off during a LaLiga game against Eibar, but his request was met with resistance.
As per 90mins, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner gestured a few times with his hands that he was not willing to go off, and eventually turned his head away from Enrique to continue ignoring his instructions. Minutes later, it was Neymar who made way for Munir El Haddadi instead.
Ronaldo also refused to listen to Zinedine Zidane's orders in a UEFA Champions League match against Bayern Munich two years ago, but made up for his refusal to be taken off by scoring twice in extra-time to help Los Blancos knock the German giants out of the tournament.
Several other big names, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, feature in the list – click though the gallery above to see them all!
