Starting XI: Liverpool vs Man City

Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool welcome Pep Guardiola's Manchester City to Anfield for the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tonight – here's how the teams will line up.

UEFA Champions League

Teams: Liverpool vs Manchester City

Date: 4 April 2018

Venue: Anfield

Time: 8.45pm

This tie is a historic event in that this is the teams' 179th meeting, yet it is also the Reds and Citizens' first-ever match against each other in the European Cup.

The tie is also the 10th time British sides have had to face each other in the Champions League, with Liverpool involved in six of those matches.

Reds boss Klopp goes into match with an impressive record against Guardiola: the German has won five matches against the Spaniard, two of them as Liverpool manager.

The five-time European champions have not lost a home match in continental competition since October 2014, a run that stretches over 14 games, during which they won nine matches and drew five at Anfield.

While Liverpool have progressed in nine of their previous 13 European Cup quarter-finals, City have reached this stage of the competition for the second time only.

The visitors will be hoping that Leroy Sane can continue his impressive form against the Reds; the winger has scored three goals in two games against his club's Premier League rivals this season.

In team news, the Citizens will be without Sergio Aguero for the clash, while the Anfield side will be missing Joe Gomez, Adam Lallana and Joel Matip.

Here's how they will line up:

Liverpool: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Henderson, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mane, Salah, Firmino.

Manchester City: Ederson, Walker, Kompany (C), Otamendi, Laporte, Fernandinho, Silva, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Sane, Jesus.
