The Red Devils have fallen to 12th position in the Premier League, with just two points separating them from a relegation spot in what is their worst start to a league campaign in 30 years.
According to recent reports, Solskjaer still has the backing of the club, but has only their upcoming three games – against Liverpool at Old Trafford as well as the trips to Partizan in the UEFA Europa League and Norwich City – to prove he deserves to keep his job.
However, should results not improve, the club's board could sack the Norwegian, and many names of potential successors have already begun circulating.
One of them is former Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri, and the Italian has given United a deadline to make a decision on whether or not they want him to take over from Solskjaer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
Allegri is said to be desperate to step into United's hot seat, and has apparently told the English side he does not want to wait around until midway through the season. As a consequence, he will only join the club if it happens in "the next few weeks", as per the report.
The Italian tactician has won five Serie A titles, four Coppa Italias and two Italian Super Cups, and also reached two UEFA Champions League finals in five years at Juventus.
