Despite there being a chance that Manchester United will not qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League, the Red Devils have reportedly agreed a surprise deal for one of Europe's most sought-after African stars.
It has been reported in Italy that Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly is closing in on a £60 million (R1.1 billion) transfer to United, but only at the end of the season.
According to Italian journalist Fabio Santini, the 28-year-old is likely to join the Red Devils ahead of the 2019/20 campaign, despite interest from the likes of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City and Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking on the TV show Il Processo and as cited by the Daily Mirror, Santini appeared confident that the Senegalese centre-back will join the Red Devils.
"Napoli will sell Kalidou Koulibaly to Manchester United for a figure of around 70 to 75m euros. It seems all done," he said.
"Naturally, such a deal will be closed only in June and certainly not in January in the winter transfer window."
Koulibaly has previously been linked with the struggling English giants, but it was thought the highly-rated ball-playing defender had his sights on moving to a club in better shape.
If the former Genk man does join Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side at the end of the season, he would be the second centre-back United have splashed big money on this season following Harry Maguire's £80 million (R1.5 billion) arrival from Leicester City at the beginning of this campaign.
