Manchester United's latest signing Bruno Fernandes, whom many want to see line up alongside Paul Pogba, has defended the French midfielder from those who expect him to be like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Pogba: What My Mother Told Me When I Left Man Utd
Many have accused the 27-year-old France star for being inconsistent since his return to the Red Devils in 2016, and while he is currently linked with a move away from the club, fans dream of seeing the Frenchman partner Fernandes in midfield.
Pogba has missed the majority of the 2019/20 season through injury, but Fernandes' arrival in January has provided United that creative spark in the former Juventus man's absence.
Speaking in a recent interview, the ex-Sporting Lisbon playmaker defended his new colleague, and insisted the team has kept their faith in the No. 6, whom he feels supporters expect to be United's Messi or Ronaldo.
"Paul is coming from a bad moment, because of the situation," Fernandes told United's official website.

"When he played also, the club and the team was not good, because the expectations are high for Paul, because Paul is a top player and Manchester United pay a lot for him, and expectations are a lot for him.
"It's normal when you are in that situation you don't play like a superstar, because everyone expects from Paul like they expect from Ronaldo at Juventus or Messi at Barcelona.
"Everyone expects this from Paul in Manchester, because they know he has the qualities for this. Also there is confidence in Paul. The team, we have a lot of confidence in Paul."
