Despite superstar Paul Pogba being a key player at Manchester United, the Frenchman could be used as bait for the Red Devils to secure the signature of one of the finest young players in European football.
According to the Evening Standard, the 20-time English champions are monitoring Matthijs de Ligt's situation at Juventus after his inconsistent first campaign with the Bianconeri.
The Netherlands centre-back has come in for criticism at times since his debut for the Turin club, and is still said to be on United's transfer shortlist.

Once it became clear De Ligt would be leaving Ajax Amsterdam last year, the Red Devils went after the 20-year-old's signature along with FC Barcelona and Juve, but fell out of the race when it appeared the defender was set on either the Spanish or Italian club.
He eventually, and surprisingly for many, chose the Serie A giants, but things have been far from smooth sailing since.
With United back in for De Ligt, it has now been claimed that they could use 27-year-old Pogba, who has often been linked with a return to Italy, in a swap deal that would see him go the other way.
Pogba and De Ligt also share an agent in Mino Raiola, and he might be the perfect man to broker the transfer.
