The Premier League side, which has accumulated the most debt among football clubs worldwide, is said to be chasing Borussia Dortmund sensation Jadon Sancho's signature.
The Englishman is experiencing another stellar campaign, having scored 20 goals and assisted another 20 strikes in 39 appearances for the Bundesliga club so far this season.
As such, Sancho has been linked with a move to United, with the Manchester club said to be prepared to meet BVB's €112 million (R2.13 billion) asking price, while it has also been claimed that the Red Devils have offered him Ronaldo's former shirt number.

Former United defender Wes Brown has now urged the club to open the cheque book for the 20-year-old.
"Talent and excitement. We need someone exactly like that at the club," he told MUTV.
"We've had them over the years and I'm sure if we were to sign him (Sancho), he would bring that excitement back to the club. It would be good for the team as well.
"We've had players like that in the past, like with Cristiano Ronaldo. They're the type of player who draw three or four defenders out and make the game a lot easier for the other players.
"If we could do it, it would be a brilliant signing."
