The Premier League giants have pulled out of the race to sign Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Jadon Sancho, as reported by ESPN.
It has been claimed the Red Devils are focusing their energy on alternative targets, with coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believed to be keen to wrap up the club's transfer business early in the window.
United are understood to be close to signing Swansea winger Daniel James, with only final details of the transfer still to be sorted out with the 21-year-old, who scored five goals and assisted another 10 strikes this season.
The Manchester club is also intent on improving its central defence, with Leicester City's Harry Maguire and Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly the preferred options.
The Senegalese, in particular, has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford, but it remains to be seen whether or not United and Napoli can agree on a transfer fee. According to Gazetta dello Sport, the Red Devils have had a €110 million (R1.7 billion) offer rejected, with the Serie A side apparently not prepared to sell the African star for anything less than his €150 million (R2.7 billion) release clause.

As per ESPN, United also still have an outside chance of signing Ajax Amsterdam captain Matthijs de Ligt, despite failing to qualify for next season's edition of the Champions League. The 19-year-old, though, is expected to reject United's interest in favour of a move to Spanish giants FC Barcelona.
