United's manager wants to make at least three major signings in a bid to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City, according to the Evening Standard.
United were on an 11-game unbeaten run before the enforced football break brought on by the coronavirus outbreak, beating LASK 5-0 in the UEFA Europa League in their last game while also closing in on fourth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League.
However, Solskjaer wants more, and the Norwegian knows he needs to improve the quality in his squad. Borussia Dortmund and England winger Jadon Sancho is believed to be his key target, with the in-form winger understood to be ready to leave the Bundesliga side.
In addition, Aston Villa's Jack Grealish and Leicester City's James Maddison are also high on his reported wish list. Both have starred in the Premier League this season, and fall into the club's preferred bracket of targets, namely: young and talented Englishmen.
An even younger alternative would be 16-year-old Birmingham City midfielder Jude Bellingham, who is also reportedly being chased by Borussia Dortmund.
West Ham United's Declan Rice and Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff are cheaper options, in comparison to Grealish and Maddison, on Solskjaer's list, but it remains to be seen how many of these targets the club will sign.
