With struggling English giants Manchester United still among the richest clubs in world football, the Red Devils have been linked with a player who could cost more than Paul Pogba did in 2016.
According to the Telegraph, the Premier League side are close to making a record bid for Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.
The report suggests Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be allowed to go all out for the England international, who could be more expensive than 26-year-old midfielder Pogba was four years ago.
The Frenchman rejoined United for £89.3 million (R1.7 billion) from Juventus at the start of the 2016/17 season under the management of Jose Mourinho, which made him the club’s most expensive signing in history.
In addition, it is said the 19-year-old could earn around £200 000 a week (R3.9 million) should the Red Devils and BVB reach an agreement over price-tag.
United, however, will face stiff competitions from elsewhere around Europe for the young winger’s signature, with the likes of FC Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City also being tipped as potential suitors.
Sancho has played 88 matches for Dortmund since his arrival in 2017, scoring 31 goals and assisting a further 41 strikes across all competitions.
