Manchester City moved to the top of Premier League standings with three games to go after defeating cross-town rivals Manchester United 2-0 on Wednesday night.

There was a surprise re-call for Italian defender Matteo Darmian at right-back, while Luke Shaw and Andreas Pereira were drafted back in the side.

Eight minutes into the second half, City broke the deadlock as Bernardo Silva cut inside before drilling the into the bottom corner.
The hosts should have level matters minutes later when Marcus Rashford sent a cross to the far post for Jesse Lingard, who was unable to score with the net gaping.
City eventually got their second goal on 65 minutes as Raheem Sterling played in second-half substitute Leroy Sane, who drilled the ball home at De Gea's near post.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer responded by throwing on Romelu Lukaku for Pereira in the final 20 minutes with the hope of getting themselves back in to the clash.
Unfortunately for the home fans, United were unable to carve out any clear-cut openings as the Citizens comfortably saw out the remaining stages
The Citizens now sit one point ahead of Liverpool, while United sit three points behind fourth-place Chelsea, who they face on Sunday..
