The French striker has produced some of his best performances in a United shirt this season, following his 2015 arrival from Monaco.
Martial struck a hat-trick in the Red Devils' 3-0 Premier League victory over Sheffield United on Wednesday evening, which was his first treble as a professional, and the first triple scored by a United player since Ferguson was in charge in 2013.
The last Red Devils player to hit the back of the net three times in one match was Robin van Persie seven years ago, a statistic that has shocked many of the club's fans.
Speaking after the game, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed that a lot of work has been done on the training ground to get Martial in the right positions.
"I'm very happy for him, the first two he's in the box ready for crosses," he said, according to the Daily Mirror.
"We have worked a lot with Anthony on his movement in there and to be patient in there because he's a quality player who can drop out of the box and get some touches.
"But that's where you score the goals, and the last one, of course, was very nice combination play and a great finish.
"We work with the boys on finishing all the time. We could have scored more today, so we don't want to miss chances where we could score and Anthony was very efficient."
Martial has now scored 19 goals across all competitions for United this season, and has taken his overall tally to 67 strikes and 34 assists in 210 matches for the club.
