With three losses in the club’s last six matches across all competitions, pressure appears to be mounting on Solskjaer and his coaching staff at the 20-time English champions.
After following up their defeat away at Watford on December 22 with two consecutive wins in the Premier League, over Newcastle United and Burnley, United have lost to Arsenal, drawn to Wolverhampton Wanderers and lost to Manchester City.
Following their most recent defeat, a 3-1 home loss to the rivals City in the semi-final first leg of the Carabao Cup, questions over Solskjaer’s future have been raised, though who might replace him if he was sacked by the United board?
The leading favourite for the position appears to be former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino, who was close to taking over at United last season. The club chose to offer Solskjaer a permanent deal, however, a decision many believe might be a decision they regret.
Young Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann has also been linked with the Red Devils, as well as unemployed managers Laurent Blanc, who last worked at Paris Saint-Germain, and Massimiliano Allegri, who has taken a season off after leaving Juventus at the end of last season.
With United fifth on the Premier League table, having won just eight of their 21 league matches so far, a number of other bosses are being linked with the job – click through the gallery to see all seven names!
