Monaco Stun Champions PSG

Ligue 1

Result: Monaco 3-1 PSG

Date: 28 August 2016

Venue: Stade Louis II

Ligue 1 champions, Paris Saint Germain suffered their first defeat of the season, as they lost 3-1 to AS Monaco on Sunday evening.

Monaco broke the deadlock after 13 minutes as Djibril Sidibe cut the ball back for Joao Moutinho, who rifled the ball home from the edge of the area.

The Champions should have leveled matters 10 minutes later when Serge Aurier picked out Edinson Cavani in the box, but the Uruguayan blazed over the crossbar from close range.

PSG were in full control throughout the first half and constantly looked towards Angel Di Maria, as they went in pursuit of an equlaiser.

However, Monaco were awarded a penalty on the stroke of halftime when after Jemerson was brought down by David Luiz. Fabinho stepped up and converted the spot-kick, 2-0.

After a slow start to the second half, PSG pulled a goal back in the 63rd minute, as Aurier crossed for Cavani, who nodded home from close range.

However, Monaco grabbed their third goal after 80 minutes when PSG's Aurier deflected Moutinho's pass into his own net for an own goal.

PSG pushed numbers forward in search of more goals, but were unable to carve out chances in the closing stages, as Monaco held on for the impressive win.
