Neymar Fires PSG To French Cup Glory, Mbappe Limps Off

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain were crowned 2019/20 Coupe de France champions after defeating ten-man Saint-Etienne 1-0 in the final on Friday night.

PSG manager Thomas Tuchel named the same side that thrashed Celtic in a friendly, with Kylian Mbappe partnering striker Mauro Icardi upfront, alongside Neymar who played on the left wing.

The Parisians had a scare in the fifth minute as Denis Bouanga got past the defence by cutting inside from the right and unleashed a strike across goal that bcame off the post.

Tuchel's charges opened the scoring in the 14th minute after Mathieu Debuchy gave the ball away cheaply to Mbappe, who raced clear to have a strike at goal but shot-stopper Jessy Moulin could only parry his strike into the path of Neymar, who found the back of the net with a powerful strike.

St-Etienne made their job of containing Tuchel's men more difficult on the half-hour mark after Loic Perrin received a red card, with the assistance of the Video Assistant Referee for a challenge on Mbappe, who went down the tunnel limping and he was replaced by Pablo Sarabia.

The Parisians gained more control in the closing stages of the first stanza and were unlucky not to go to the break with at least a two-goal cushion as Moulin made two great saves in first-half stoppage time to keep out Angel Di Maria's free-kick and Icardi from close range.

Tuchel's troops almost had a perfect start in the second stanza, as Neymar exploited the space behind the defence inside the box six minutes from the break and played a square pass to Di Maria for a simple tap-in but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Di Maria came close to making it 2-0 just before the hour-mark after Leandro Peredes threaded a through pass inside the box. The Argentine had space to aim at goal but his first-time shot missed just wide of the post.

PSG kept on knocking and Sarabia had a glorious chance to double their lead in the last quarter of an hour after going clear on goal, but the St. Etienne shot-stopper parried his low shot away and got up again to deny him a chance from a rebound.

Nevertheless, PSG were able to see out the remaining stages of the second half to clinch their second trophy for the season.
