Los Blancos' search for a new coach seems to be trickier than first expected, with big names such as Tottenham Hotspur's Mauricio Pochettino and Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp having already been ruled out, according to Marca.
While Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri and Chelsea's Antonio Conte remain on the list, the club has apparently started to look at other options.
President Florentino Perez is reportedly keen for a coach with a similar profile to Zidane – a trainer who has played for the club.
Former Los Blancos stars Michael Laudrup and Jose Miguel Gonzalez Martin del Campo, also known as Michel, were added to Real's list of potential candidates by Marca, and even Clarence Seedorf's name has been mentioned.
Napoli's Maurizio Sarri has also been put in the mix after the Serie A side signed up Carlo Ancelotti, but he is yet to be released by the Italian club and it remains to be seen whether or not Real would go for an outsider like him, considering he never played for the club or coached outside of Italy.
However, according to Murcia president Victor Galvez, former Real star Jose Maria Gutierrez, more famously known as Guti, will be Los Blancos' new head coach.
"Guti is going to coach Real Madrid so he cannot coach Murcia. He was the coach I wanted here," Galvez said, as quoted by AS.
"It's a shame that Zidane didn't resign two days later. Guti called me to thank me for our interest in him."
Guti, who won 15 trophies with Real as a player, has impressed as a youth coach at the club over the past four years.
