In replacing Santiago Solari, the Frenchman took over the reins at the LaLiga giants just 10 months after initially resigning from his post at Real.
Having led the club to an unprecedented three successive UEFA Champions League titles during his first stint with the club, the 46-year-old tactician was identified as the perfect candidate to help get Los Blancos get out of their slump, with the club likely to finish the 2018/19 campaign without lifting a trophy.
However, with Real having failed to adequately replace club record goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo since his move to Serie A giants Juventus in July 2018, the Spanish giants seem poised to dip into the transfer market for a big-name signing, with a number of players reportedly being earmarked.
In discussing Zidane's return to the Santiago Bernabeu, Real president Perez insisted changes in the squad are imminent.

"Zidane is a man who produces enthusiasm, not only to Spain but to the rest of the world. But now we have to prepare for the next game and finish the season well."
Perez then seemingly fuelled speculation the club could make Mbappe their marquee signing in the next transfer window when he joked about the manager's nationality possibly being an aid in any attempt to secure the striker's signature.
"Zidane is French so he could do something with Mbappe," he added, with a laugh.
