FC Barcelona, who have made some shrewd signings throughout the years, have now been linked with two surprise names.
The Catalan giants are currently experiencing an injury crisis in the centre-back position, with both Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen ruled out for the foreseeable future.
The absences leave Barca with Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet, who have both not been at their best this season, to step in.
As a consequence, the Blaugrana's bosses are reportedly looking at new options and have identified Liverpool's Dejan Lovren as a January target, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The 29-year-old, who had a stellar 2018 FIFA World Cup with Croatia, has not been a regular at Liverpool this season, with Jurgen Klopp seemingly favouring Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez as his centre-back pairing.
Another option that has reportedly emerged for the Catalan club is former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic.
The 34-year-old, who can play as a right-back and a central defender, is currently on the books of Zenit St. Petersburg, but it is believed that Barca could bring him in on loan for the second half of the season.
Meanwhile, El Chiringuito has suggested that the club's bosses are also considering signing Roberto Firmino as a long-term replacement for the ageing Luis Suarez.
The Liverpool and Brazil striker has reportedly been backed by former Reds midfielder Philippe Coutinho, while 31-year-old Suarez has been struggling to hit his former heights so far this season.
