Ramos etched his name further into the history books when he picked up the 25th red card of his career in Real's shock 2-1 defeat to Girona over the weekend.
While the loss saw Los Blancos set an unwanted record of seven losses this season, their most since the 2008/09 campaign – the season before Cristiano Ronaldo's £80 million (R14.5 billion) move from Manchester United – the club's captain also made history by becoming the first player to receive 20 red cards in LaLiga.
Joint-second on the podium, with 19 red cards, is former Real Zaragoza stalwart Xavi Aguado, who was part of the Zaragoza team that defeated Premier League giants Arsenal in the 1994/95 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup final, and former Sevilla defender Pablo Alfaro.
In fourth place is former Spain international Juanito, who is most well-known for his decade-long stint with Los Blancos. The towering winger, who tragically passed away in a car accident in 1992 picked up a total of 18 red cards.
