Real Madrid Suffer Shock Defeat At Sevilla

Spanish LaLiga Report: Sevilla v Real Madrid 09 May 2018

By SL International - May 09, 2018 11:25 PM

Spanish LaLiga

Result: Sevilla 3-2 Real Madrid

Date: 09 May 2018

Venue: Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuan'

Sergio Ramos missed a penalty and scored an own goal as Real Madrid suffered a 3-2 loss to Sevilla in LaLiga on Wednesday evening.

Los Blancos were without the services of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Isco and Dani Carvajal for the encounter.

It was the hosts who got off to a better start, with Franco Vazquez causing a number of problems in the final third.

Sevilla were eventually rewarded in the 26th minute as Wissam Ben Yedder latched onto a pass from Luis Muriel before slotting the ball through the legs of Kiko Casilla.

Los Blancos, meanwhile, were struggling to carve out chances in the final third and were restricted to efforts from distance.

It got worse for the visitors on the stroke of half-time as Sevilla doubled their lead thanks to a smashing finish from Miguel Layun that left Casilla with no chance.

Ten minutes into the second half, Los Blancos were awarded a penalty when Lucas Vazquez was brought down by Franco Vazquez. Sergio Ramos stepped up to take the penalty but thumped his effort against the upright.

Zinedine Zidane responded by introducing Borja Mayoral for the in-effective Dani Ceballos with 20 minutes remaining in the half.

Karim Benzema squandered a glorious chance to reduced the deficit when he blazed an effort horribly over the crossbar in the box after 76 minutes.

Sevilla eventually sealed the win in the 84th minute, with Ramos deflecting Gabriel Mercado's cross into his own net.

Real did pull a goal back with two minutes remaining as Mayoral found the back of the net with a composed header from close range.

The visitors were then awarded a second penalty in the fifth minute of time added on. Ramos against stepped up and this time managed to score the spot-kick, although that proved to be the final piece of action of the half as Sevilla held on for three points.

@pato Real must find planB in order to succeed without Ronaldo. They relying too much on 1 player. They must buy more attacking players

@barca-baccaneers You sound like u don't understand football. Ronaldo was not rested. He got a slight knock(injury) in the 2nd leg against Bayern. And logically, Ronaldo isn't Real Madrid. So if he doesn't score, other players in the team must score. Do u even know that Benzema (striker) has scored only 5 Laliga goals this season? Is that Ronaldo's fault. It's better u do your research first before blaming players. Soccer is team work, not individual. Messi excells because of the players(team) around him. FYI..UEFA champions league is the most covetted(wanted) trophy by any european team. Just as is the World Cup trophy is the most covetted by any nation(country).

@barca-baccaneers Champions League final more important than your Laliga fixture, why opt to play a player who is under going injury rehabilitation ?How did he fail Madrid whiles he is their top goals scorer both in the league and Champions league? Messi play last night because they dont have an important fixture in the near future!!

Ronaldo has failed Madrid in Spain or can not compete on constant basis thats why Real is struggling he is reserved for champions league but Messi wouldn't have a problem playing last night thats why Ronaldo doesnt deserve ballon dor this season it will be the most controvecial ballon dor if he wins it may be winning world cup would be very much favourate but for now champions league not enough even Madrid as a team they have let down their supporters big time we took the league very easy it was as it Gitafe won it by chanse and they find it dificult to mantain the required standard peformance of true champions
