Real Sociedad Outclass Atletico
Spanish LaLiga Report: Real Sociedad v Atletico Madrid 19 April 2018
Result: Real Sociedad 3-0 Atletico Madrid
Date: 19 April 2018
Atletico Madrid were left stunned after they suffered a 3-0 defeat to Real Sociedad in a LaLiga encounter on Thursday evening.
The visitors were once again without Diego Costa, who remains out injured, which saw Kevin Gameiro handed another start.
The opening stages of the encounter proved a cagey affair, although Diego Simeone's men did shade the possession statistics.
Atletico went close to opening the scoring after 22 minutes when Diego Godin's header was turned away by goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli.
The deadlock was broken seven minutes later as Adnan Januzaj picked out Willian Jose, who rifled the ball into the roof of the net.
Atletico pushed for a way back into the clash but they were unable to carve out another chance in the remaining stages of the first half.
Fernando Torres was brought on at the start of the second half and he had the ball in the back of the net in the 54th minute, but his strike was ruled out for a foul in the build-up.
Atletico continued to push for an equaliser as Torres and Šime Vrsaljko went close after 67 minutes.
However, it was Sociedad who got the next goal with 10 minutes remaining, as Willian Jose's fine flick set up Juanmi, who calmly dinked the ball over Jan Oblak.
Jaunmi then rounded off the win in the second minute of time added on with a looping header that left Oblak with no chance.
