Ronaldo & Asensio Lead Real To Victory in Eight-Goal Thriller
Spanish LaLiga Report: Real Betis v Real Madrid 18 February 2018
Result: Real Betis 3-5 Real Madrid
Date: 18 February 2018
Venue: Benito Villamarín
Real Madrid reigned supreme in a 5-3 thriller against mid-table LaLiga side Real Betis on Sunday evening, with Marco Asensio and Cristiano Ronaldo getting on the scoresheet.
Real, who welcomed back Gareth Bale in starting eleven, saw Asensio head them in front from a rebound off Ronaldo’s shot in the 11th minute.
Betis came back stronger after that and Loren Moron went for an audacious flick that sailed across the face of goal after 16 minutes.
Later on, Aissa Mandi rose highest from a corner from the left side, but failed to guide it towards the goal of Keylor Navas.
Moron once again tested the resolve of Real’s defence after a through ball from Ryad Boudebouz, but he fired narrowly wide of goal after 23 minutes.
In the 26th minute, Navas made himself big with an outstretch effort to tip Joaquin Sanchez’s free-kick over the bar.
Two minutes later, Los Blancos were forced to an early change after Marcelo pulled out through injury, with Theo Hernandez taking his spot.
The Lobos were level after 33 minutes through the help of Joaquin’s in-swinging cross which Mandi connected with to beat Navas at the back post.
Three minutes later, the unthinkable happened. Junior Firpo whipped in a low cross which Nacho Fernandez accidentally bundled into his own net to give the hosts the lead.
Talisman Ronaldo worked himself into a nice scoring position after side-stepping two opponents, but failed to beat Antonio Adan.
An out-swinging corner by Lucas Vazquez after 51 minutes allowed captain Sergio Ramos to rise and head home the equaliser.
With the pendulum swinging, Bale looked to regain the lead with a shot from the right, but Adan ran off his line to deny him.
Later on, Adan denied the Welsh man yet again who had tried to round him before placing to an empty net, but the former was up to the task to deny him.
Los Blancos eventually made it three after Dani Carvajal beat two defenders to play in Asensio, who duly completed his brace with a nice side-foot finish in the 59th minute.
Following a string of passes, Casemiro delivered a splendid lob over the defence which landed at the feet of Ronaldo to get his name on the scoresheet, 2-4.
Another delightful cross by Junior from the left found Sergio Leon at the far post, who made no mistake to slide home the seventh goal of the evening.
In second-half stoppage time, Substitute Karim Benzema rounded off the scoring with a nice finish inside the box to give Zinedine Zidane’s side a massive victory.
