Coutinho & Suarez Guide Messi-Less Barca Past Malaga
Spanish LaLiga Report: Malaga v FC Barcelona 10 March 2018
Result: Malaga 0-2 FC Barcelona
Date: 10 March 2018
Venue: La Rosaleda
Goals from Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho were enough to hand LaLiga leaders FC Barcelona a 2-0 win over Malaga at La Rosaleda.
Barca had to make do without the services of Lionel Messi, who was left out for personal reasons.
After a quiet start, the Catalan giants broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Luis Suarez nodded home Jordi Alba's cross.
The lead was doubled on 28 minutes as Coutinho collected a pass from Ousmane Dembele before finishing with a wonderful flick.
Things went from bad to worse for Malaga two minutes later when Samuel Garcia was shown a straight red card for a studs up challenge on Alba.
Despite being a man down, the home side showed a little resolve in the final 10 minutes of the half but they failed to trouble Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.
Barca continued to dominate upon resumption of the second half, but they were restricted to efforts from distance, none of which troubled Roberto Jiménez.
Valverde opted for a change on 73 minutes as Andre Gomes replaced Sergi Roberto for the final quarter of the game.
Malaga continued to push for a first goal as the second half continued but they were let down by their finishing in the final third.
Nevertheless, 2-0 was how the score remained at the full-time whistle as Barca move 11 points clear of second place Atletico Madrid.
