Result: Malaga 0-1 Atletico Madrid
Date: 10 February 2018
Venue: La Rosaleda
Antoine Griezmann scored the only goal of the game to guide Atletico Madrid to a 1-0 win over Malaga in LaLiga on Saturday evening.
Griezmann grabbed the lead for the visitors after just two minutes after reacting quickest to Saul Niguez’s strike that ricocheted off the bar to fire past Roberto Jimenez, 0-1.
Diego Simeone’s charges were limited in attack after the goal and retreated into their own half which allowed the home side space to attack.
Brown Ideye nearly equalised in the 17th minute after being picked out at the back post but his header went over the crossbar.
Diego Costa had a chance to extend Atletico's lead in the 34th minute following a cross from Koke but he failed to direct his header on target.
Niguez also had an opportunity to get on the score-sheet five minutes before halftime after pouncing on a loose ball at the back post but his strike could not find the target.
10 minutes into the second half, Roberto Rosale almost found the equaliser with a strike from long range but Jan Oblak produced an equally brilliant save.
Simeone’s troops were in control with 25 minutes left to play and did not give the home side chances to get hold of the ball in their last third.
Koke had a chance to extend the visitors' advantage in the 76th minute with a free-kick on the edge of the box but it missed the target by inches.
However, that proved to be the final bit of action in the half as Los Rojiblancos held on for the slim win.
