Ronaldo-Less Real Crush Leganes
Spanish LaLiga Report: Leganes v Real Madrid 21 February 2018
Result: Leganes 1-3 Real Madrid
Date: 21 February 2018
Real Madrid, who were without Cristiano Ronaldo, came from behind to record a 3-1 win over Leganes in LaLiga on Wednesday evening.
The home side took a surprising lead after just six minutes when Unai Bustinza bundled the ball home from close range after Real failed to clear their lines.
The lead did not last long, though, as Lucas Vazquez collected a pass from Casemiro before finding the bottom corner with a clinical finish.
The sparkling duo of Vazquez and Marco Asensio were causing the home side all sorts of problems with great inter-passing before the latter’s left foot effort lacked the power to cause Leganes goalkeeper Ivan Cuellar in the 17th minute.
Then the visiting side scored a goal of absolute class to take the lead in the 27th minute with impressive one-touch passing ending with Brazilian midfielder Casemiro slotting home from close range.
Benzema missed a great chance to give the Galacticos a 3-1 lead before the break, but the Frenchman couldn’t find the required touch to score.
During an entertaining second half, the hosts managed to carve out a couple more chances with Nabil El Zhar going closest in the 64th minute.
With Real looking to extend their lead, Zinedine Zidane introduced Gareth Bale for Benzema with 13 minutes remaining.
And, Los Blancos eventually sealed the result in stoppage time, with Sergio Ramos converting a penalty after Mateo Kovacic was brought down, 1-3.
With their victory, Madrid moved into third place with seven points separating them from close city rivals Atletico Madrid in second place.
