Suarez & Alba Fire Barca Back To Winning Ways
Spanish LaLiga Report: Eibar v FC Barcelona 17 February 2018
Result: Eibar 0-2 FC Barcelona
Date: 17 February 2018
LaLiga leaders FC Barcelona earned a hard-fought 2-0 win over Eibar, to keep their unbeaten start intact, with Luis Suarez and Jordi Alba getting the goals.
After a slow start, the Catalans quickly settled in their rhythm and the opening goal subsequently followed, which was converted by Luis Suarez after 16 minutes, 0-1.
After losing possession in the middle of the park, Lionel Messi picked up the pieces and delivered a delightful pass to the Uruguayan, who ran through before beating Marco Dmitrovic.
Eibar threatened to draw level, after Kike’s effort cannoned off the woodwork minutes later. John Jordan had another opportunity to level matters, but he went inches wide of goal.
A beautiful through ball by Sergio Busquets set-up Lionel Messi who combined with Suarez, but the Argentine hit the post after 36 minutes.
Barca were looking to kill off the game early on in the second period, after Suarez met a delivery from Messi at the back-post, but he could only find the side-netting.
Jose Luis Mendilibar's side kept their hopes of an upset alive, and strutted their stuff with ease. A delicate skip by Pape Diop contributed to Takashi Inui taking a swipe at Marc Andre Ter Stegen after 55 minutes.
Record-signing Phillipe Coutinho replaced the legendary Andres Iniesta in the 62nd minute, with the latter receiving a standing ovation.
Eibar were left a man short after Fabian Orellana, got a straight red card for dissent following a complaint on Diop’s earlier caution.
Mendilibar followed suit later on after lashing at the officials, for their failure to send Suarez to the stands in the same way they did to his player.
Messi’s efforts to get on the scoresheet was frustrated by Dmitrovic this time, who managed to thwarted his intended lob after being feed through by Coutinho.
There was nothing the Serb could do to stop Jordi Alba from sealing the victory, two minutes from time after coolly slotting home.
