Madrid Hammer Valladolid To Ease Champions League Heartbreak

Spanish La Liga
Result: Valladolid 0-4 Real Madrid
Date:10 March 2019
Venue: Estadio Municipal Jose Zorrilla
Real Madrid eased their Champions League exit with a 4-1 thumping of Real Valladolid at the Estadio Municipal Jose Zorrilla in La Liga on Sunday night.
Valladolid made a fast opening when Fernando Calero sent Michel’s free-kick wide after two minutes.
Valladolid missed a big chance for an 11th minute lead through a horrid penalty miss from Ruben Alcaraz following a foul on Sergio Guardiola by Alvaro Odriozola.
Los Blancos gradually improved towards the half-hour mark, as Karim Benzema blasted over from the edge of the area.
Valladolid, though, had the first say when Anuar Tuhami volleyed home Guardiola’s cross on 29 minutes, 1-0.
Out of nowhere, Raphael Varane tapped home from poor defensive work to level matters on 34 minutes, 1-1.
In added time, Casemiro threatened a second but Jordi Masip saved easily to conclude a dysfunctional half for Madrid where Valladolid had a missed penalty and two disallowed efforts.
Santiago Solari’s side were renewed at the restart, as Benzema slotted home from the spot after a foul on Odriozola on 51 minutes, 2-1.
Madrid closed in on a third, but Dani Ceballos’s volley flew straight at Masip from 12-yards out after 57 minutes.
From a corner, Benzema added a third through a powerful header which proved too hot to handle for Masip a minute later, 3-1.
With the turnaround completed, Madrid went about closing up the contest from midfield with the substitution of Federico Valverde for Toni Kroos in the final quarter.
In the 80th minute, Madrid were brought down to 10 man when Casemiro's received a second yellow for an off the ball incident.
There was time for more though, as Luka Modric got past a defender to find the far corner from 12 yards on 85 minutes, as Real respond from their midweek Champions League calamity with a 4-1.
