Gerard Pique saved Barcelona’s blushes when he scored late on to earn a 1-1 draw against Espanyol in a Spanish LaLiga match at the RCDE Stadium on Sunday night.
Barcelona controlled the flow of play from the first whistle, but they were unlike themselves in front of goal with the final pass often going astray.
Barcelona only created their first decent scoring chance in the 23rd minute when Philippe Coutinho struck the crossbar with a powerful shot from the edge of the box.
The next decent effort on goal only came in the 44th minute when Luis Suarez fired a 24-yard free-kick inches over the target.
The half ended all-square.
Barcelona were made to pay for their waste of possession in the opening half when Espanyol took the lead in the 66th minute after Gerard Moreno headed home a cross from Sergio Garcia, 1-0.
Barcelona fought hard to get back into the match after going behind and managed to find an equaliser seven minutes from time when Gerard Pique rose highest to head home a pin-point cross from Lionel Messi, 1-1.
Neither side could find a winner in the dying minutes of the match as they shared the spoils and Barcelona remained unbeaten for the league season.
