Barca Come From Behind To Beat Relegation-Threatened Vallecano
Result: Barcelona 3-1 Rayo Vallecano
Date: 9 March 2019
Venue: Camp Nou
FC Barcelona had to come from a goal down to beat Rayo Vallecano 3-1 in a Spanish LaLiga match at Camp Nou on Saturday.
The result leaves Barcelona firmly atop the league standings with 63 points form 27 matches, seven points clear of their closest chasers Atletico Madrid while Vallecano remain in the relegation zone second from bottom.
It was a cagey start from the league leaders who struggled to turn their possession into decent goal scoring chances as they squandered the ball in the final third.
In the 24th minute, very much against the run of play, Vallecano took the lead when Raul De Tomas dribbled his way past a few defenders and fired an unstoppable 18-yard shot into the corner of the net, 1-0.
Barcelona quickly sprang into action and levelled matters in the 38th minute when Gerard Pique headed home a Lionel Messi free-kick, 1-1.
The home side took the lead six minutes into the second half courtesy of a penalty-kick from Messi after Jordi Amat committed a foul inside the box, 2-1.
Luis Suarez put the result beyond doubt in the 82nd minute when he got onto the end of an inch perfect pass from Ivan Rakitic, the Uruguayan turning the ball home from close range, 3-1.
