FC Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has revealed which player has surprised him the most since he was appointed by the Catalan club.
The former Everton and Netherlands manager replaced Quique Setien in the LaLiga club's hot seat in August, just days after the Blaugrana's humiliating 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League last season.
Since taking over, Koeman has worked with a number of talented players such as Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho, among others, but he has now admitted to being pleasantly surprised by 17-year-old Pedri, who has already featured 10 times across all competitions in this campaign.
"Especially given that I didn't know him that well, the player who's surprised me the most is Pedri," he told Mundo Deportivo.
"I knew Barca had signed him from Las Palmas and I had seen a tape of him, but I don't think anyone expected the rapidity of his development since joining – playing and training with the best players at Barca aged just 17, delivering such high levels of performance."
Before the season started, Pedri had been linked with a loan move away from Barcelona following his arrival from Las Palmas, but the teenager has already become an important player for Koeman.
He has started against the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus this season, and has found the back of the net on two occasions across all platforms.
